Celebrate International E-Waste Day on Friday, October 14th with Good News Project!!

Electronic Waste (e-waste) is the fastest growing waste stream globally. With a growth rate of 3-4% per year, we need to act quickly to deal with it. In 2021, an estimated 57.4 million tons of e-waste was produced worldwide. Only 17.4% of that waste, which can contain harmful as well as rare materials, is expected to be properly recycled. This results in the huge loss of valuable and critical raw materials from the supply chain and causes serious health, environmental and societal issues through illegal shipment of waste to developing countries. International E-Waste Day was created to bring awareness to the loss of important resources and provide opportunities for local communities to make impacts through e-waste recycling efforts.
This year’s E-Waste Day theme is “Recycle It All, No Matter How Small!”

Due to their small size, items such as cell phones, electric toothbrushes, toasters and cameras are often discarded incorrectly, and they make up a significant proportion of the 8% of all e-waste that is thrown in waste bins which is subsequently landfilled or incinerated. This means the important raw materials they contain cannot be extracted and are lost.

Good News Project (GNP), whose vision is to “BE THE GOOD for the Environment and Each Other”, will celebrate International E-Waste Day by providing e-CYCLING collection on Friday, October 14th, from 9 am – 4 pm, and will be accepting both small and large unwanted electronics for recycling. GNP charges .45 cents/lb. for environmentally responsible disposal of these electronics.

Volunteers interested in participating in our environmentally friendly programming are required to call GNP in advance at 715-843-5985. For more information on e-CYCLING, email Eric at eric@goodnewswi.com.
